Megan has been commissioned by Natalie Groom, Catherine Robinson, and Qun Ren to compose a work for clarinet, horn, and bassoon. This commissioning project is funded through a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council, and will be able to be used for educational purposes. There are a series of performances of the work scheduled for February 2024; more details to follow.


 

In the fall of 2023, Megan will begin PhD studies at Northwestern University’s renowned Bienen School of Music in music composition and technology. This is an incredible opportunity for her career, even though she will miss the D.C. area and all it has to offer.


 

Megan has been commissioned by bassoonist Bryan Young to compose a work for soprano, clarinet, and bassoon, to be premiered at Boulanger Initiative’s WoCo Fest 2023. The piece utilizes the poetry of Bryan’s mother, poet Marjorie Young-Grays, and will be performed in its premiere performance by Bryan, Megan, and Natalie Groom. The performance takes place at AMP by Strathmore at 8:00 PM on May 5, 2023.

The full Out of Our Shells collection has been released. There were over 100 submissions from local DC-area artists, and 14 were selected to have professional recordings made and released through the freely-available Out of Our Shells compilation album.

Megan’s piece for choir, “the in between spaces,” was selected for performance at Society of Composers, Inc.’s upcoming conference in Syracuse, New York. The conference will take place from November 4-6, 2022.

Megan’s music will be presented on a live concert as part of the Out of Our Shells project, featuring music of local DC-area artists, and organized by American University’s Humanities Truck. The concert will take place on August 14 from 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM at Rhizome DC. Megan will be performing original music, joined by Erin Murphy Snedecor.


 

Megan’s work for solo cello, seed/quiescence, will be performed by Erin Snedecor at Boulanger Initiative’s WoCo Fest 2022 on May 27 at 7:30 PM at the Church of the Epiphany in Washington, DC. Megan also serves as Director of Education Advancement for Boulanger Initiative.


 

Megan’s piece for wind ensemble, that which makes complete, will be premiered by the Pennsbury Community Band on May 26 at 7:30 PM in Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania. The piece is based on the painting Coronation by Leon Berkowitz.


Megan is taking over as the Director of Music for the 2:00 service at the Saint John Paul II National Shrine in Washington DC. In this role, she will select music and conduct the ensemble in addition to singing in the ensemble.


 

Megan DiGeorgio presents: Equilibrium, a composer-performer showcase. It will be a program of mainly Megan’s compositions, with collaborators Roger Zahab, Erin Snedecor, Emily Tsai, and Emory Hensley. It will take place on Friday, May 20 at 7:30 PM at Vigilante Coffee Co. in Hyattsville, Maryland.

Megan will present a Virtual Workshop for Boulanger Initiative titled “Integrating Composition Into Your Creative Practice” on April 23 at 12:00 PM EDT. This workshop is for any musician, professional or not, or music teacher of any level. Megan has been selected to participate in Fresh Squeezed Opera Company’s Fresh Squeezed Vocal Lab 2022. As a part of this program, she will work with a singer to compose a new work for voice and piano, receive mentorship and professional development, and a studio recording and live premiere of her new work.

Megan will present a composer-performer showcase on May 20, 2022 at 7:30 PM at Vigilante Coffee Co. in Hyattsville, Maryland. This performance will feature her own composition, performed by herself, Roger Zahab, Erin Snedecor, Emily Tsai, and Emory Hensley.

 
 

 

Megan’s music has been selected to be a part of American University’s Out of Our Shells project. She will have a work recorded by the Humanities Truck (pictured beside). The piece being recorded is seed/quiescence, for cello, and will be recorded by Erin Snedecor.


 

Megan has been commissioned by Duo Entre-Nous, consisting of saxophonist Don-Paul Kahl and clarinetist Jackie Glazier. Megan will be composing a piece for them utilizing spatialization, movement, and electronics.

Megan has been chosen to receive Concertia’s Emerging Composer Fellowship. She is one of three composers selected for this fellowship, and will collaborate with Concertia in the coming year on a commission and recording of a new work.

On June 11, 2021, at 7:30 PM EDT, Trio Lunaire will perform Megan’s piece for string trio, and now encounter trees, via livestream from New York City. Trio Lunaire consists of Jennifer Choi, violin, Lev Zhurbin, viola, and Wendy Law, cello.

On April 14, 2021, Megan joined the University of Maine Farmington’s honors seminar for the premiere of her work, making or becoming sound, which was commissioned by the University of Maine Farmington music program, as well as for some discussion with the students.

A new piece, Almost Out of the Sky, with text by Pablo Neruda and composed by Megan, will be premiered on April 24 at 7:00 EDT. This piece was composed and recorded remotely during the COVID pandemic. It will be premiered alongside works by composers Sarah LeMieux and Ben Lieberman, who also composed works setting the poetry of Pablo Neruda. The piece was performed by Emily Tsai, oboe, Erin Snedecor, cello, Emory Hensley, percussion, and Megan DiGeorgio, soprano.

The piece was selected from the festival’s Call for Submissions, from over 160 pieces. one already made was originally commissioned and premiered by clarinetist Joanna McCoskey Wiltshire. Joanna McCoskey presents “one already made,” a doctoral recital at UNC Greensboro, which features the world premiere of one already made, commissioned by Joanna and composed by Megan. The recital will take place on January 27, 2021 at 5:30 PM EST, and will be available for viewing via livestream.

Megan has been commissioned by clarinetist Joanna McCoskey to compose a piece for unaccompanied clarinet. The piece, one already made, will premiere via livestream during a solo recital given by Joanna on January 28, 2021 at 5:30 EST.

Megan’s newest piece, time could exist (without any events to fill it), written for solo multi-percussion, will be premiered via livestream on November 19, 2020 at 8:00 PM. This piece was written for the Hypercube Composition Lab, and the premiere can be accessed via Hypercube’s Facebook page and Charlotte New Music’s YouTube channel.

Megan has been selected to participate in the Hypercube Composition Lab through Charlotte New Music. As a part of this program, she will be composing a solo multi-percussion piece for Hypercube percussionist Chris Graham, to be premiered via livestream in November 2020.

District New Music Coalition held their third annual New Music DC conference, this year completely virtual! The conference consisted of presentations, concerts, networking, and community discussion. Megan is on the leadership board of DNMC, and helped make this event a success by facilitating programming, moderating sessions, and more.

As of June 2020, Megan is stepping into the role of Director of Education for the Boulanger Initiative. In this role, she will be focusing on creating opportunities for students who traditionally would not have had access to composition or to learning about womxn composers. She has worked with the Boulanger Initiative for almost 2 years in various capacities, and is excited to take on this new role!

 

 

Megan has been featured by Appel Farm Arts Camp’s Social Distance Learning Project, which took place during the spring and summer months of 2020. Megan is a former music instructor at Appel Farm. Watch the video here.


 

Megan has been selected to attend Connecticut Summerfest, a composition festival that takes place at Hartt School of Music in June 2020. As a part of this opportunity, she will be composing a piece for the International Contemporary Ensemble.

Artifice Ensemble, a contemporary music choir in Washington, D.C., of which Megan is a member, will perform their inaugural concert in collaboration with StageFree on March 6 at 8:00 PM at the Art Atrium at Bennett Park Apartments in Arlington, Virginia. This concert will include the premiere of the in between spaces, a choral composition written by Megan.

On Friday, December 13, Megan presents a concert at Casa Phoenix with Jennifer Lapple, flautist, and Ethan Foote, bassist and composer. The program includes Erwin Schulhoff’s Concertino for Flute, Viola, and Contrabass, as well as other modern and contemporary music, some of which was written by the performers themselves.

For the second year in a row, Megan has had a piece selected for performance at District New Music Coalition’s New Music DC Conference. The 2019 conference will take place September 14 and 15 at Catholic University in Washington, DC. Her string quartet, Partial Pressures, will be performed. Find out more about the conference here.


Megan has been selected to compose a piece for Fear No Music’s commissioning project, HEARINGS. She is one of six composers selected to write music based on the transcript of the 2018 Brett Kavanaugh Supreme Court Confirmation Hearings. The concert will take place on September 23, 2019. Fear No Music is a new music and advocacy group based in Portland, Oregon, and you can read more about this project here.


Megan will be playing with D.C.-area contemporary music ensemble Great Noise Ensemble, on their “The Four Freedoms Project III: Freedom from Want” program on May 18, 8:00 PM, at Westmoreland Congregational United Church of Christ.
